On October 28th, WMCO manufacturing member Best Damn Doors opened theirs to a Live Stream Plant Tour Focus Group. WMCO’s Ryan Tabone was on hand to film the event featuring host and owner of Best Damn Doors, Brad Cairns – a firm advocate of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvements. Cairns provided a full walk through of his shop with great examples of innovative processes driven by his creative team of process engineer employees.
The tour theme challenge focused on product sequencing with a review of product flow and continuous improvements that have been made over the years improving throughput and reducing production times.
“You’ll see some innovation today that has help us over come our challenge when it comes to space…. We wanted to do things that simply weren’t out there, so we had to go about building our own machinery – we started that 3 years ago, and I’m really excited to show you some of the stuff we’ve done.”
The live stream plant tour made it possible for an interactive experience for the attendees to ask questions and interact with host Cairns in real time through the virtual tour. Following the live stream tour everyone at the event gathered for an interactive group discussion of the focus challenge as well as feedback on observations of the tour.
Brad Cairns, owner of Best Damn Doors, is a also one of WMCO’s lean trainers along side Sepp Gmeiner of Lignum Consulting; columnist with Woodworking Network and runs a website with business partner Lynn Thompson, Quantum Lean providing lean tools and Kanban system solutions.
