Recently the WMCO featured our first Plant Tour Focus Group event as a Live Streamed event. The tour was situated in St. Catharines by a newer manufacturing member to the cluster, RCI Cabinetry.
RCI was interested in evaluating the company’s current product flow to explore ways to increase throughput on the shop floor. RCI is a younger company, and for some WMCO members attending, it was a nostalgic experience as they could relate to the growing pains from their past.
Due to the high demand of customers orders and the necessity to expedite product flow, WMCO facilitated a live-streamed event bringing various WMCO manufacturing members together, sharing best practices and opportunities to enhance the current shop layout.
“For myself, it was a lot of nostalgia actually…going through that shop” – Laverne Martin, Woodland Horizons.
The live stream event began with an introduction to host Robert McKnight, RCI Cabinetry Owner. McKnight shared with the attendees some history about the company and himself. Then the event carried forward with a real-time walk-through of Robert’s shop and opportunities for interactive discussion during the tour. Following the shop tour, the attendees gathered for an open discussion on what improvements could be applied to the current shop layout, aiding in throughput.
Overall, the event was successfully delivered, bringing welcomed feedback and open discussion on a relatable experience many wood manufacturers face. McKnight carries with him a background in automation, robotics, mathematics and is also a ticketed machinist.
