Ending off the summer season, the WMCO placed the spotlight on Woodland Horizon for a plant tour focus group. The event brought together wood manufacturers and suppliers from across Ontario to share ideas, learn from one another, collectively focus their attention and contribute to the continuous improvements for Woodland Horizon.
Woodland Horizon, is a custom kitchen cabinet manufacturer located in the peaceful town of Drayton, Ontario. Founded in 2005 by Laverne Martin and his wife, the 2000 sq. ft. shop grew through one move, and two expansions to the 18,000 sq. ft. where it is now…and they are already looking ahead for an even larger footprint next year.
In recent years, the company has been on a ‘lean (manufacturing) journey’, and has been working toward modernization of technology and continuously improving processes. Company owner Laverne Martin, focussed his thoughts on a key component to the company’s success.
The biggest benefit and the one we focus on the most, is core people development (and) culture development. We’ve got some amazing people here, and we continuously try to speak life and improvement into their lives.”
The plant tour focus group theme for Woodland Horizon centred its attention around work cell improvements and process flow.
Inside the four walls of the 18,000 sq. ft. facility boasted, storage retrieval systems, flatline automation finishing, an integrated MES information system along side their cabinet design software, with a complimenting staff of craftsmen and artisans, producing their more custom cabinetry and components.
The WMCO’s latest tour featured a new tour guide system investment, that now provides a more connected and immersed experience for attendees. In addition, members can re-watch the tour on demand from our website at www.wmco.ca in the members area.
