On Wednesday, September 25th, 2024, WMCO members gathered for an exciting day at Export Development Canada in Kitchener for a WMCO Quarterly Networking Event. Focused on Digital Integration and Lean Transformation, the event provided an incredible opportunity for manufacturers to explore new technologies, discuss real-world applications, and exchange best practices with their peers.
The event began with energized networking, setting the tone for what was to come. The room was filled with leaders from across the wood manufacturing industry, eager to learn and share. As the first sessions kicked off, it was clear that this was going to be a day full of actionable takeaways.
Our first panel brought together WMCO members to discuss their Digital Integration Projects, supported by FedDev Ontario. This session was a highlight for many, as panelists shared how embracing automation and digital technologies has significantly improved efficiency and profitability in their businesses. These real-world success stories sparked plenty of discussion and gave attendees tangible strategies to bring back to their own operations.
The spotlight of the event was Sepp Gmeiner from Lignum Consulting, who delivered a thought-provoking presentation titled, “DON’T DIGITIZE YOUR WASTE!” Sepp challenged the audience to rethink their approach to digital transformation by applying Lean principles. His practical tips on identifying and eliminating waste in processes before integrating digital tools struck a chord with attendees. The energy in the room reflected a collective shift towards more strategic and efficient operations.
In addition to the keynotes and panel discussions, WMCO also unveiled a special offer for the upcoming LIGNA Tour, the world’s largest woodworking trade show. Attendees were given early access to a 6 nights for the price of 4 deal, exclusive to WMCO members. This tour promises to connect members with global industry innovations and advanced manufacturing technologies that could elevate their businesses.
This event like all WMCO events would never have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors. Richelieu, Planit Canada, Innergy, and Royal City Paints were instrumental in making this day a success. Their contributions enhanced the event experience and underscored the importance of collaboration in the wood manufacturing industry.
