On March 29, 2023, WMCO sponsored the event “Applying Lean in the Office – Using Value Stream Mapping” led by Sheri Phillips of Lean Advisors, at the EDC facility in Kitchener, Ontario. Nine people from five different WMCO member companies were present and gained valuable insight into the ways Lean Principles can be applied to office settings.
Peter DeGelder, Business Development Manager for WMCO welcomed the entire group, and reviewed upcoming WMCO events.
Sheri Phillips then took everyone through the different forms of waste in office situations and gave sample exercises to assess where waste can be found.

After lunch, smaller break out groups participated in activities where they practiced applying lean principles to specific scenarios within their own business. Lastly, Julia Novik, President of Lean Advisors, gave an overview of how to access COJG funding for Lean projects.
This was a terrific session, and the participants benefitted from the personalized attention Sheri was able to provide throughout the day. As is typical of WMCO events, a wonderful synergy was created by animated and transparent discussion between members of different companies.
