Timmerman Timberworks Plant Tour | August 28, 2025
New Lowell, ON
WMCO’s June Quarterly Networking Event brought members together at Conestoga College’s formal event hall for a focused day of industry insight, supplier expertise, and valuable networking. From core material standards to global trade opportunities, the day provided practical strategies for navigating today’s shifting markets.
WMCO members gathered at Timmerman Timberworks for an exciting Plant Tour Focus Group that highlighted the innovation and resilience driving Ontario’s wood manufacturing industry.
A big thank you to our event sponsors, Homag and Taurus Craco, whose generous support helped make the day possible, including providing the catered networking lunch. WMCO is grateful for their ongoing commitment to supporting our members and events.
Welcome and Event Kickoff
The day began with a welcome from the WMCO team, who shared updates on upcoming opportunities. Of particular note was the October 1st Quarterly Networking Event at Biesse, which will feature an impressive program on innovation, AI, and cybersecurity, as well as Biesse’s own technology showcase.
From there, the floor was turned over to Timmerman Timberworks. Founded in 1999, the family-founded company has grown into one of Ontario’s leading names in mass timber, heavy timber, and engineered wood design. Attendees heard about Timmerman’s journey of growth, including how they rebuilt their operations after a devastating fire by investing in automation and expanding their facility.
Inside the Facility
Timmerman walked attendees through their work in glulam, NLT, and engineered timber fabrication, including their proprietary automated Nail Laminated Timber (NLT) press. This innovation allows them to deliver precision and efficiency at scale, blending old-world craftsmanship with modern production capability.
The group then split into two tours:
-
Mass Timber Area – where skilled joiners work on large structural pieces with precision.
-
Machine Floor – a sprawling space filled with advanced equipment, showcasing the automation that keeps Timmerman competitive.
These tours gave attendees a chance to see both the artistry of craftsmanship and the power of industrial integration up close.
Lunch, Networking, and Discussion
After the tours, participants reconvened in Timmerman’s offices for a networking lunch provided by Homag and Taurus Craco. Over lunch, members compared notes, discussed the challenges Timmerman faces, and shared ideas for applying what they saw to their own operations.
The conversations were lively and practical, touching on everything from sustainability and workforce development to how automation can support efficiency and growth. For many attendees, the opportunity to exchange insights with peers was just as valuable as the plant tour itself.
