BWA Newsletter – Health & Safety and COVID-19 Best Practices

  • June 25, 2020

MANY IN THE WOOD INDUSTRY HAVE PIVOTED QUICKLY AND ADOPTED A NEW “NORMAL” FOR DAILY OPERATIONS.

What do COVID-19 best practices look like for the wood industry? As we continue our efforts to improve our best practices, many still have questions about Health & Safety in the workplace.

Wednesday, June 17th, 2020, marked our 8th Online Roundtable COVID-19 Event. It focused on answering your questions around Health & Safety and COVID-19 Best Practices.

We welcomed back expert Randy Dignard, President of Industrial Safety Trainers Inc. who has over 35 years of experience as a Health & Safety Professional, and his ongoing work during this pandemic offered valuable insight for best practices.

speaking about Health & Safety and guidelines for best practices.
Randy’s presentation covered identifying risks, taking actions to reduce risk, and creating evidence of your efforts. He also spoke on PPE requirements in the workplace, cleaning and sanitization, work refusals, and WSIB claim scenarios.

One key take-away – due diligence is very important. In the event you have an outbreak or a visit from the MoL, they will ask to see evidence of risk assessments, identified controls, and how the controls are applied.

By preparing your company with effective measures to see you through the evolving landscape of Health & Safety, not only are you limiting the risks of contracting or spreading COVID-19, but it will allow you to take action quickly if COVID-19 is identifying in your workplace.

Industrial Safety Trainers Inc. has provided a risk assessment sheet and safety poster to help with Health & Safety controls in the workplace. Click here to download.
