The Wood Manufacturing Cluster of Ontario (WMCO) is actively responding to the current trade crisis emerging in the United States following the White House’s announcement of new Section 232 tariffs. These tariffs directly impact cabinetry, upholstered wood furniture, and other wood products exported into the U.S., with rates set to increase sharply over the coming months.
⚠️ Tariff Impacts (Effective October 14, 2025):
-
Cabinetry & Vanities: 25% tariff, rising to 50% on January 1, 2026
-
Upholstered Wood Furniture (specific HTS codes): 25% tariff, rising to 30% on January 1, 2026
-
Softwood Lumber & Chapter 44 Products: Expanded exposure to tariffs with exemptions removed
These tariffs apply to all affected products regardless of country of origin — including CUSMA-compliant goods.

How WMCO Is Responding
To support our members during this critical period, WMCO is:
-
Issuing a press release to government partners to ensure the voice of Ontario’s wood manufacturing sector is heard.
-
Hosting a Virtual Tariff Roundtable on Monday, October 6, 2025, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM EST.
This event will feature Heather Jacobson (Nakachi Eckhardt & Jacobson P.C.), a U.S.-based trade lawyer, who will provide an open Q&A for members. The session will also include roundtable peer sharing where members can discuss impacts, coping strategies, and next steps.
