BWA members are reaping the benefits of the Value Stream Mapping Training aspect of the IT Baseline Project! Read on to learn more about it!
The BWA is in the middle of a very important project where participating companies in the BWA will be studied to learn the level of software technologies in the businesses. From engineering design to full ERP systems, members will be studied as to their use of, and proficiency in, various software technology systems.
By benchmarking the software technology systems across the BWA, we will have the ability to create solutions that can help the members become more proficient, as well as giving them information on which companies in the cluster are able to help them with implementing specific advanced systems.
Part of that study has included the creation of a current state value stream map of each company and a future state value stream map. The training for current and future state has taken place, most recently January 25, 2013, hosted by South Bruce Flooring. The training is provided by Lloyd Phillips of HPM Consulting, one of the pioneers in Lean training.
What is the Value Stream Map? Talk to our members to find out! It is the 2nd principle of the Toyota Production System where you identify your value-adding and non-value-adding steps in production, and set the course to reduce and eliminate the non-value-added steps.
Feedback from members has been tremendous, especially from members whom had no previous exposure to this level of training, and from members who were skeptical of how it applies to their unique process.
Below, Lloyd Phillips and Sepp Gmeiner lead the group in discussion.
Members enjoyed the camaraderie of learning process as they helped the host South Bruce Flooring with their Future State map.
Sepp Gmeiner, well known to all BWA members as the former Co-Manager, remains involved with projects and is facilitating the IT Baseline Project. If Sepp has not paid you a visit yet, he soon will.
Thanks to IRAP for their support with this project! There will be more updates on this project as it moves forward.
